Fundamental SEO Checklist

Apr11

Search engine optimization is an ever evolving game, but there’s several fundamentals that are pretty key to any strategy for tuning your website for search engine takeover. Here’s a few rules I make sure to follow on any of my websites:

  • Choose a memorable and relevant domain name.
  • Carefully choose a few keywords and keyphrases to optimize your website for.
  • Optimize TITLE tags on all website pages, aim for ~70 characters in your TITLE.
  • Make unique and relevant ALT tags for all of your website’s images.
  • Carefully craft META description tags and META keyword tags for each of your website’s pages, keep descriptions at ~150 characters or less, and keywords at ~10 or less.
  • Employ proper use of H1, H2, and H3 tags to draw reader and search engine attention to important text on each page.
  • Optimize the URL structure of your website through URL rewriting.
  • Keep your keyword density between 2% to 6%, you can use Textalyser to weigh keyword density.
  • Create and maintain quality backlinks, from relevant websites and web registries.
  • Don’t rush to totally adopt and switch over to new metrics and audience measurement tools, but certainly do not be afraid to test them, as new ones often have new methods of measurement that eventually get standardized, if not by that application.
  • Use Google Alerts to monitor search results for people talking about your website and specific topics in your niche. Being the first person to respond to comments or questions can often lead to a great influx of traffic to your website, as well as do wonders for your brand recognition

Information originally from a post on Ahmed Belal’s blog called Ultimate SEO Checklist, that I have paraphrased and appended to.

SearchMe … Google Video Killer?

Jul31

I’ve been noticing alot of start up companies developing more and more interesting concepts when it comes to search technology, and evolving it into a more aesthetically pleasing and less metciulous process getting your desired search results.

Sure, you’ve heard about the advancements in user powered search engines like Cuil and Stumpedia, but the only search engine that REALLY has made me give it a double take is SearchMe.

SearchMe‘s interface is already visually stunning, and after a few modifications to the interface (and of course after they have a comprehensive database of search results) … I think I might actually switch from Google! Be careful, if you go to the video search engine, you might fall in love! SearchMe has truly innovated video search interfaces with their carousel display style that you can see.

Other features available make SearchMe truly unique, such as the ability to group your searches into “Stacks” … which allow you to categorize your searches and keep them organized, making it easy to delve into past searches and find an old result with efficiency, instead of retracing your steps on the search engine itself.

Get ahead of the game and submit your websites to SearchMe today!

Find DoFollow Links in Forums

Jul21

While on the manhunt for DoFollow blogs and websites that are related to your site (that also have nofollow disabled, and commenting enabled) … you probably have come across your fair share of nofollow’ed blogs, as well as repeatedly finding the same DoFollow blog over and over again.

Well, what would you say if I told you that you could find sites that have NoFollow turned off, completely related to your niche, and never have to look at a nofollow attribute ever again?

Yeah, I thought so.

Check out Find in Forums … it’s similar to a DoFollow Blog Search Engine, but instead of searching blogs, it searches various forums and message boards across the world wide web. Most forums have no follow attributes turned off by default, and very few choose to turn it on.

So, enjoy the wealth of back links that you will now be raking in!

Cheers!

GREMLin & Other New Stuff

May30

So, you’ve probably been noticing a couple new things around here, namely the new tab in the upper navigation bar that says “Internet Marketing & SEO Tools” … this is a new section I’ve made to keep track of various internet marketing tools and seo tools that I have created for public use. (Oh, and, of course, make it easier for you to find and utilize.)

Right now, there are two available tools, FeedStub and GREMLin. I’ve already spoke with you about FeedStub and RSS feed directories … so lets get on to the hot ticket item.

GREMLin is a new link building tool that I am developing. It works exactly like the Google search engine (because it uses it, duh) … except that instead of returning the usual results pages that you are familiar with, GREMLin returns a list of clickable links for you without all the other text you weren’t going to read anyways.

Using search queries like the following return the best results:

[KEYWORD / KEYWORD PHRASE] “leave a reply”

[KEYWORD / KEYWORD PHRASE] “remember my personal information”

[KEYWORD / KEYWORD PHRASE] “notify me of follow-up comments”

Each of these will return links to commentable WordPress blogs related to your desired keyword. For now, you have to check if they are nofollow’ed or not yourself, but hopefully not for long.

This should help some of you out on cutting down time spent finding “do follow” blogs to drop backlinks on.

Anyways, enjoy the new toys, and please please PLEASE PLEASE …

Comments about GREMLin are welcome! What features do you want to see? Do you have some more useful search queries I can post up here for people to use?

How To Ask For Links

Apr21

Many people complain that when they ask for links, or try to share their link on various communities, that they experience little to no success, or even get banned from the venue they are trying to reach.

Well, you have to make sure to follow the rules!

When you’re posting your links on forums, make sure it is allowed by the community to append your link to your signature. Don’t post your link in new threads and replies all throughout the message board, instead, look for an advertising or promotion specific forum where the administrators want these sort of threads to be placed. (e.g. a “post your link” forum, or a “review my site” forum.)

When posting comments to blog, don’t clutter your post with links to your blog, instead focus your energies on contributing something back to the blog (provide information, ask a question, etc.) and leave your link in the URL field. I can pretty much guarantee your comment will be approved and you will gain a relevant backlink.

I hope this has helped you out, following these guidelines has ensured that 99.9% of my comments get approved, and I’ve never been banned from a message board for promoting my website within a reasonable means.

Building Backlinks With Stumpedia

Apr15

Welcome to the next evolution in social networking, Stumpedia.

Stumpedia is a sociallly powered search engine that takes input from humans to index, organize, and review the pages of the internet.

You can submit search queries, and add your own entries to the search engine results pages, and furthermore, you can “vote” items on the result pages to bump them up or down. It’s a great way to receive targeted backlinks, while providing useful data to a growing community.

I really like where this system is going, but there seems alot of room for user manipulation of the application, but I’ll stick it out and see how it goes, you should too!

Small Fish in a Big Pond

Mar28

Ever wonder why you seem to not be growing within your niche or constantly having your link requests rejected by the powerhouse blogs and websites?

There’s two reasons.

First, you don’t focus enough on generating new, thought-provoking content for your readers. Authority bloggers usually only mention or link back to websites or articles they find interesting, have a certain ingenuity, or bring something new to the table. If you’re not doing this, and just regurgitating information that is already found on thousands of other blogs, there is going to be no outside interest because it is already involved somewhere else.

Second of all, you haven’t even begin to establish yourself as an authority. You constantly try to get high traffic blogs to link to you, but they notice that you don’t even have the support of your fellow small to medium sized fish. Don’t set unrealistic goals and only ask for links from people like John Chow, Shoemoney, or Darren Rowse … look for websites and blogs that are experiencing the same growth and traffic rates as you. In a likely case, they will also have more feedback for and information to share with you.

It’s just like fishing, you aren’t going to land a three hundred pound tuna your first time, just take your time, enjoy it, and fish.

How Do I Receive 10,000 Visitors Per Day
