Have you ever wondered why you keep making posts and gaining backlinks, but your authority rank on Technorati never seems to go up in count?
Well, this is because Technorati’s spiders have not realized that your backlink count from other blogs has increased. The websites linking to you have not pinged Technorati since before they were updated with your link.
In order to make sure your backlinks are being indexed by Technorati, use Google or Yahoo! Site Explorer to search for your backlinks.
Make a list of all websites that are linking to you, and submit all the websites in your list to Technorati’s ping tool. (Or, if you have a huge list, you can use Sebastian’s Technorati Ping Application) When Technorati receives the pings for the various websites linking back to you, it will add the backlinks to your own website’s count, increasing your authority ranking! Make sure to ping Technorati with your own URL when you update your website, so your own links out will be counted.

Very useful information, I often wondered how that really worked. I am going to start compiling my list!
Stumbled this post as well!
Whether or not you start building your list Technorati will pick the backlinks up eventually. I mean I don’t know why you would want to know exactly what Technorati rank you have and how that rank would help you!
It doesn’t really matter too much, I agree. I just notice alot of people getting frustrated because they see they have alot of backlinks on Google or Yahoo, but it doesn’t show up on Technorati.
btw thanks for the comments, susie & 1mil in 365!
This is a VERY useful post. Primarily because it answers one of the many significant questions that new bloggers/Technorati users have.
It took me awhile to figure out what was going on. I participate in Wordless Wednesday and I noticed that every Wednesday my count would go up. Initially I thought that was the day that Technorati updated. Until, of course, I saw it go up on other days.
Suffice it to say that I finally related it to people updating/pinging Technorati.
I wish this post would have been somewhere readily available. You explain it very clearly.
Now that I know, I’m not bothered by when it’s updated. It’s the not knowing what’s going on that makes you want to know.
Good information there
I have always noticed that if a backlink is counted and appears blogsearch.google.com then it also gets listed in technorati and gets counted as an authority.
Though I am not a Technorati fan I am a fan of 2 other social bookmarks, it’s hard to be in everyone. My focus is only on 2. Your information can apply to Digg, and de.icio.us as well.
good info, thanks.
