Google maybe trying to have trade mark or brand change and testing it with favicon.
Yeah, I fucking hate it as well. I want them to change it back.
I noticed it too, can’t say it distressed me quite as much as you though.
Noticed the first day they did it, I guess they were just trying to update their old out-dated favicon, but agreed, horrible. Lets get XKCD to make a comic about it….. haha

Oh I know! I saw it and was like, “What the heck is that??” Google usually has such nicely designed stuff, where did this come from? I agree, it sucks.

while talking about design issues,
you shouldn’t have added those ugly black outerglow/dropshadow to those favicons!!!!
