Google’s New Favicon Rules! 3
Au contrair to my previous post dissing on Google’s weird favicon … Google made me feel all warm and tingly with this one!
Google’s new favicon features a white g overlaid on a multicolored background representing the Google colors, which was inspired by the submission of AndrĂ© Resende a CSCI undergrad in Brazil. (Background remind anyone else of the Microsoft flag? Looks cool, but I’m just sayin’ …)
Anyways I’m sure you’ve all noticed it already just had to put in my two bits about it. I’m really happy they changed it, because the old one was starting to be a real drag!
You can check out the official new Google favicon announcement for the runners up in the submissions that inspired the new icon.

I never use favicons whenever I’d made a site and I hate all the annoying clogging of my error logs for people looking for them.
I haven’t been able to find a program to edit .ico files since Windows 3.1 was popular.
I hear your opinion, and give the same response I do to many people who share the same view … using a favicon is a great way to distinguish your site from the many tabs your reader probably has open.
I just use Photoshop and export my favicons in .png format! It works exactly the same as a real icon file, but it’s in our favorite image format, PNG!
I have just noticed it yesterday while searching and it is cool. For me it looks like Joomla’s favicon because it was difficult to find ‘g’ in the favicon but it is much much better than they have already.
