I do think that even with their might, Google would struggle to launch a new social media platform, unless it has some major unique quality to set it apart from the existing ones. Most of the big sites were just lucky enough to get there first. Even if someone designed a version of Facebook without all the flaws, it would be hard to get people to change allegiance.
